RFK Senate Finance Committee hearing Outcry
“Leave safety behind. Put your body on the line. Stand before the people you fear and speak your mind – even if your voice shakes. When you least expect it, someone may actually listen to what you have to say.”
WIN:
Doctors and other medical professionals repeatedly interrupted Robert F. Kennedy, Jr’s Senate Finance Committee hearing. To applause, protestors in their scrubs confronted Mr. Kennedy with shouts of “You lie!” and “Vaccines save lives!”
WHERE:
Washington, DC - United States Capitol Building - January 29, 2025
WHY:
The Trump administration wants us on our back foot. The flood of executive orders and directives is meant to confuse and intimidate—both those directly affected and those who might push back. But their vision is not inevitable. When we can resist, we should—literally, symbolically, physically, culturally. In On Tyranny, Timothy Snyder implores us to “not obey in advance.” We must instead struggle noisily against the cruelty central to the Trump administration’s goals and challenge it at every turn. We can hold ground against the fear and hatred the administration intends to rely on in our workplaces, schools, communities, and public institutions by being trustworthy neighbors, stalwart optimists, and clever resistors. Often we will resist quietly. Sometimes, the work will call for shouting.
